Law firm numbers have inched upwards, crossing the 1,000 mark, amid the Covid-19 pandemic. There were 1,016 Singapore law practices as of September 2021, up from 998 as of December 2020.

International Law Firms

Recent international entrants into Singapore include Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas and Khaitan & Co from India; Bae, Kim & Lee from Korea; Allbright Law Offices from China; and U.S. firms Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe, and McDermott Will & Emery.

Size of Law Firms

About 80 percent of Singapore law practices comprise small law firms of between one and five lawyers each, with 10 more firms listed in this category as of September 2021 compared with the 809 last December.

According to the Law Society of Singapore’s 2021 Annual Report released last month, there were 6,333 practitioners as of August 2021, crossing the 6,000 mark for the first time in its annual reports.
